Qualifications for the position are based on the education, training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the positions to be filled.

You must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to successfully perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. For the Wage Grade 10:

  • You may be required to obtain and maintain New York State certifications required to operate and maintain Corporation water and waste water treatment systems.
  • You must currently possess or demonstrate the ability to successfully meet the requirements for all-position welding certification, and may be periodically tested to assure that skill level is maintained.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Agility: Bends, stretches, twists, or reaches out with the body, arms, or legs.
  • Plumbing and Pipefitting: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PLEASE NOTE: As part of the assessment process applicants to this position will be required to come to SLSDC in Massena, NY to perform a welding task. Your score on this part of the assessment will be combined with the score from the on-line test to determine whether your application will be referred to management
